Teaching English Through Crafts
In the classroom it is important to bring the students attention and listening. One way that I found effective is to ask students, easy to create fun crafts. Children of all ages love to create things. Explain how a building is to build an enjoyable experience and students need to learn to listen carefully to how you do it right. Make sure you speak slowly and clearly. The children used to listen in another language takes a few extra milliseconds for the brain to process new information is available in English.
One of the trades that I use is very easy to make and can be adapted to most age groups. It is for each student with a mobile straws, yarn and paper to create drawings. Since boys and girls have different interests, sometimes I have different themes – dragons and superheroes for boys, princesses and dolls for girls. If you have a small class, you might even be able to offer students the choice of subject. There are many possible topics … print, cars, airplanes, birds, flowers, monsters, images of friends, family pictures, dogs, cats, dinosaurs, Disney characters, etc. Each dictionary will provide images of many ideas.
As the scissors are involved in the creation of this business, you need common sense, whether the age of your students can use their scissors in a responsible way to use. I always remind students that the scissors are dangerous and should never be shaken by or against anyone. In any case, the children may be executed in the hand with scissors. Scissors for children are rounded for safety. Nevertheless, we must examine carefully and continuously, because the children will be children.
Materials needed:
1st Two regular servings for each student. You can buy these in packages of 100 in most supermarkets.
2nd Son cut in two different lengths – for example, 6 “and 9″. Two of each per student. Black is a good choice.
3rd Crayons.
4th * A sheet of paper on which several designs were printed on both sides black and white. The drawings must be aligned symmetrically on both sides. It can be difficult to do. Or … You can each child two sheets stuck together and they can – then the color and cut.
Another way is to configure the mirror to make the two images on one page of the paper. You can do this in Adobe Photoshop or MS Word. Here is how to do this easily in MS Word:
a) to insert a new blank document, a picture that you want to use.
b) Place the right side in the image of the first. have the same size.
c) Click the first image.
d) Click on Copy (or right-click on the Edit menu or above)
e) On the drawing * * Draw menu (click probably at the bottom of the screen). A menu will appear. An election is “Rotate or Flip.
f) Click on “Flip Horizontal”.
g) You should now see the images mirrored on the sheet.
h) Repeat the process for building the future you want to use.
i) When the children to cut the designs, they have to fold only color images, then they they are back to back.
* I suggest printing on card designs with light instead of normal paper. It will blow the mobile better together.
* * If the Drawing toolbar is not visible, click the main menu, then Toolbars, then check (?) the drawing. This should be the Drawing toolbar on the screen to open.
Procedure:
1st Children of color drawings before cutting.
2nd Say we are dragons. Once again he painted on the back of the four dragons were cut and help you need, children make a hole in the head (center) of each dragon it crashes right when it was suspended.
3rd The hole should be large enough for wire to pass through, when something as simple as a ballpoint pen has a hole in the paper press ..
4th One end of the wire is attached to each dragon, and the other end is connected to a similar hole in each end of the straw.
5th The different lengths of the wire up so that you can hang the drawings on different levels – a pleasant mentioned.
6th I usually base the straw so that they are in the form of an “X” – and you have four ends hanging from those of your dragon.
7th Now you still have a piece of wire in the middle of the range of the “X” so that you mobile from a lamp, ceiling, beams, or what is hanging.
8th To add another dimension, you can hang suspended from the middle fifth of the mobile … the ‘X’.
So, where the English come, you ask? Well, you will no doubt explain the students what they will do that day to show them and then how to move step by step to do in English and the children listened. You can test their knowledge on the phone. What are they? Has anyone seen? Does anyone have one? Do they remember the one with their babies hanging over their beds? What were they made?
Encourage them to talk to their classmates on their mobile phones in English, and his questions in English. You can help them train their questions …
“Master, how can I fix this?
“Miss ____, where I do the hole?”
“Mr._____, it looks okay?”
If mobile phones are completely assembled, each student receives a mobile creative they made themselves and that they can talk and show pride for their families. Each student can be encouraged to describe their mobile to their classmates. You do not even realize that they learn English while having fun and that is what it is!
